Servicing the following counties: Fresno/Merced Counties & City of Madera

Family Wellness staff will facilitate an afterschool tutoring program located at the North Fork Tribal TANF (NFRTT) office in Fresno for Native American K- 12th-grade students.

The youth will be split into two groups: K-3rd and 4th-6th and there will be three classes per week at the Fresno TANF office. NFRTT will contract qualified individuals as tutors, to assist youth with homework assignments, purchase supplies for sessions as needed and provide an afternoon meal for our youth.

Our in-person afterschool program will run from Tuesdays through Thursdays from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. For the children who live out of town or are unable to make it to our afterschool program, tutors will travel to a nearby public library or their school to accommodate their needs. Tutoring sessions will also be provided via Zoom if still taking Covid-19 precautions. Zoom sessions will happen at an agreed time between parent and tutor. Zoom tutoring sessions will be available on Mondays and Fridays with Tuesdays-Thursdays availability being limited to 1:00 PM-3:00 PM and 6:00 PM-7:30 PM. A tutoring session can either be a 30-minute session or a 1-hour session pending on need. Students will have time each day allocated to homework and have assistance provided in all areas of schoolwork, specific assistance in reading & math when homework is completed or there is no homework to be completed.

The Family Wellness department will focus its attention on personal student strengths versus deficits, incorporating self-esteem boosters, real-life prevention awareness on various subjects, and character building.
Our plan is to provide extra learning support and resources for each student to prevent academic deficiency.
