NFR Tribal TANF Family Wellness will facilitate a program for Native American Youth ages 10-17. Curriculum will be culturally appropriate for young native men and women.
Sacred Circle for Young Women
The program will offer curriculum based on girl’s health, hygiene, fitness education/prevention, decision-making skills, life skills, career exploration and drug education as well as promotes self-esteem and self-love.
Sacred Circle for Young Men
The curriculum will focus on understanding manhood, self-esteem & identity, Decision Making Skills, Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles & Relationships, career exploration and cooperation and conflict. There will also be drumming and singing taught within the curriculum.
Sacred Circle will utilize Native-specific curriculum when available, such as Native STAND (Native Students Together Against Native Decisions- a sexual healthy curriculum) when required. Based on the topic, age groups may be separated during sessions. Sessions will include a talking circle and activity; participants will also complete a beading project to encourage togetherness through culture. To add the series, regularly participating youth with a 2.5 GPA will attend Our Voice, Our Choice Youth Summit.
